Slop Gulch · Map & first match
Your first Slop Gulch match: know where you’re going.
Don’t sprint into the middle of the canyon just because you can. Find your base, grab what you need, and give yourself somewhere to retreat. Here’s a useful first lap.

What you’re trying to win
Red and blue fight across Cinder Basin. The standard Big Team Battle rules are 100 team eliminations or 15 minutes, with respawns. Bots can fill empty slots. The 8v8 and 10v10 labels describe the format, not a promise of that many human players.
You start with a line rifle and sidearm. You can carry two firearms and a knife. There is no flag to steal in this mode. Conquest is a separate, account-required mode on Colossus; this guide covers the original Cinder Basin BTB layout. Snow, Rain and Saloon variants can change the presentation or equipment.
Read the basin before crossing it
The two bases sit at opposite ends of the canyon. The central basin is the obvious crossing, which also makes you easy to notice. The side ledges and cave give you other places to investigate. Higher ground gives you a view; it also gives everyone else a view of you.
Original-layout reference drawn from the published map’s pickup positions. North is up; elevation and collision are not shown. Pickup availability changes during a match.
The labels below use the game’s original weapon names. Saloon matches use a different weapon set, so don’t treat this as a universal spawn chart.
A useful first lap
- Check your base interior. The original layout places rifle, shotgun, ion repeater and ammo pickups there. Pick a second weapon for the distance you actually plan to fight.
- Learn the roof access. Both base roofs have a Longwatch rifle, sidearm, health and frag pickups. A roof is a lookout, not permanent safety.
- Move with a teammate. Take a short trip into the basin, then return to cover if your shield breaks. Learn that route before heading straight to the other base.
- Try one vehicle role. A driver and gunner have different jobs. Press E to interact and check the seat label before assuming you can shoot.
Pickups worth knowing
| Region | What to look for | What it changes |
|---|---|---|
| Either base interior | Line rifle, Breacher shotgun, Ion Repeater and ammo | A nearby place to change your loadout before crossing. |
| Either base roof | Longwatch, sidearm, health and frag grenades | A starting point for longer sightlines; remember that the roof is exposed. |
| Midfield, west of the central hill | Twinstrike rocket launcher | An explosive option when the pickup is available. Check the surrounding fight before committing. |
| Eastern cave | Overshield and Thermal Projector | A detour for extra protection or close-range fighting. |
| Midfield near the blue portal | Camouflage | A temporary option; it is not a guarantee that nobody can find you. |
| Red western cliff route and ledge | Longwatch, sidearm, flux grenades and Pulse Mortar | Different ranges along the western side. Watch your footing and ammunition. |
Use the shield before using the respawn
You have 100 health and 100 shield. The normal shield recharge starts after five seconds without damage. If you’re losing an exchange, breaking the line of sight can buy you another attempt. Sprinting farther into the same sightline usually cannot.
Try a simple rhythm: fight near cover, check your shield, retreat when needed, then re-enter. A health pickup and a rechargeable shield solve different problems. Don’t confuse the two bars.
Choose a job in a vehicle
A Trailjack crew divides movement and turret fire between the driver and gunner; the passenger does not get a second turret. A Skimmer puts movement and weapons under one pilot. Bastion is the tracked cannon vehicle. Pick a role you can understand before trying to do everything at once.
Drivers: give your gunner a usable view. Gunners: watch the approach instead of expecting the driver to win the fight alone. The vehicle guide covers the original lineup and seats.
Get into the match and keep the controls usable
Open Slop Gulch, complete the age check and load the game. Guests can join official Big Team Battle without creating an account. Guest round scores are temporary; verified accounts keep eligible XP, ranks, rewards and customization. Signed-in players get the next free official seat first; active guests are not removed for them.
Start on Balanced for desktop or Economy if the device struggles. The browser still downloads substantial assets. Click the game to capture the mouse; Esc releases it. On keyboard, WASD moves, Shift sprints, R reloads, Q swaps weapons, G throws a grenade and Tab opens the scoreboard. Use landscape for touch controls.
If it runs rough, use the graphics and connection guide. If you’re bringing friends, read the room and invite guide. This is still a one man slop shop: tell me what broke and what you were doing when it happened.
